// sbrc-20 — draft spec v0.1
BRC-20,
but shielded.
SBRC-20 is a token standard for private tokens on Bitcoin. It runs natively onchain as inscriptions, and a zk-proof private indexer keeps balances, amounts and recipients hidden.

// why sbrc-20
Every BRC-20 balance is public. SBRC-20 fixes that.
| BRC-20 | SBRC-20 | |
|---|---|---|
| Runs on | Bitcoin L1 inscriptions | Bitcoin L1 inscriptions |
| Mint | Public fair mint | Public fair mint |
| Balances | Public per address | Hidden once shielded |
| Transfer amounts | Public | Hidden |
| Sender & recipient | Public | Hidden |
| Validity | Indexer checks balances | Indexer checks a zk proof |
// how it works
Notes
Inside the shielded pool, tokens exist as notes — published only as commitments that reveal nothing.
Commitments
Every new commitment joins a Merkle tree, a fingerprint of every note in the pool.
Nullifiers
Spending a note publishes a unique tag only the owner can compute, so nothing is spent twice.
Proofs
Each private transfer carries a zk proof that inputs equal outputs and the sender owns the notes.
Operations: deploy · mint · transfer · shield · xfer · unshield. The chain records commitments, nullifiers and proofs — never balances, amounts or owners.
